About this pattern
Inspired by classic blue-and-white porcelain tiles, this mandala uses only sixteen colors, nearly all of them shades of blue plus crisp white. That short floss list makes it calm and economical to stitch, and the cool palette looks fresh in a kitchen, bathroom or sunny hallway. The design fills the whole square, so it works beautifully as a tile-like panel: stitch several and frame them in a row for a hand-made version of a tiled wall. Work the darkest blue outlines first in each section, then fill the lighter shades inside them so the shapes stay sharp. Keep your blues on a labeled card, because several of them are close in tone. On 14 count Aida it finishes at about 5.7 in (14.5 cm) square, and it also makes a striking cushion front.
